Since its establishment in 2017, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) has risen as the leading al-Qaeda affiliate in the Sahel through its consolidation of Ansar Dine, Katibat Macina, al-Mourabitoun, and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
